Paul Goudriaan

About Paul Goudriaan

Paul Goudriaan is a physiotherapist and osteopath known for his expertise in musculoskeletal health and rehabilitation. With close to 30 years of experience in the field (at the time of writing), he has gained a reputation for his holistic approach to treating patients, integrating both physiotherapy and osteopathy techniques to address a wide range of conditions affecting the muscles, bones, and joints.

Paul has degrees in both physiotherapy and osteopathy, which have equipped him with comprehensive knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat various musculoskeletal, neurological and visceral issues effectively. His practice involves hands-on manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercises, and patient education to promote healing, restore function, and prevent future injuries.

Paul finished his four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy in 1996 in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

After several locum jobs in The Netherlands and Germany, he found a position in a private practice for Sports Physiotherapy in Nijmegen, where he would work for five years. Since Paul had always desired to travel the world, live and work in different countries, when an opportunity arose on a tropical island, the decision to take on this chance wasn´t too difficult.

On Aruba, Dutch Antilles, he worked in the rehabilitation department of the Horacio Oduber Hospital. As a member of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation team, headed by a physiatrist, he worked on the Orthopaedic, Neurologic, Paediatric wards, and on the ICU and CCU. Here he gathered valuable experience with complicated multi-trauma patients.

Whilst working in the hospital for 4 years, Paul was fortunate to be able to do many courses, organised by the Rehabilitation department, such as Neurological Rehabilitation, Prosthetics, Shoulder Rehabilitation, Paediatric Physiotherapy for 0–2-year-olds, and many more.

After Aruba, it was on to Bonaire, where he co-owned a physiotherapy clinic, then Nerja, Spain.  In Nerja, Andalucia, he worked in a private practice for Physiotherapy for nearly 2 years.

Forced by the economic crisis to leave Spain, it was back to the Netherlands, and a job as a physiotherapist on the orthopaedic ward in the renowned Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation hospital, The St. Maartenskliniek.

Because the better weather and different lifestyle of Spain and the Caribbean made it difficult to get used to the circumstances in The Netherlands, Paul was looking for another change, soon, and he moved back to Spain. The Costa Blanca this time. From 2011 to 2015 Paul worked inMedifit, Moraira, a clinic for rehabilitation and physiotherapy.

In May 2015 Paul bought the clinic on the Plaza in Javea, Centro Terapéutico Javea.

In the same year he started the 4-year Master study of Osteopath to broaden his knowledge and to keep developing as a therapist. This study was finished, with some delay due to the Covid situation, in 2021.

Since then, Paul has done two additional courses on the Temporal-Mandibular Joint, (jaw joint) to amplify his knowledge on this specific subject. Dentists in Javea now send patients with TMJ complaints to Paul on a regular basis.

Jackie

About Jackie Schaper-Kotter

Massage Therapist

I completed my Registered Massage Therapist program in 2012 in Vancouver, Canada. This program was 27 months, full time and consisted of 3000 hours in-school learning as well as 300 hours minimum hands-on learning.

My practicum hours consisted of working at the in-school clinic providing massage and hydrotherapy services, treating patients in the Burns and Plastics Unit at Vancouver General Hospital and at GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, Vancouver. There were also numerous opportunities to provide post event massage to athletes (marathons, cycling events etc), and various other patients (care homes etc).

Upon obtaining my Diploma, I proceeded to work in physiotherapy clinics in Vancouver. This gave me further experience with various athletes as well as providing general massage treatments.

In 2014 we moved to London, UK and I worked at a clinic called Six Physio. I worked in two of their clinics, one in Leadenhall and the other in Chelsea. Naturally, I treated many people with back pain from having desk bound jobs but who were also ‘weekend warriors.’  A number of my clients were training for marathons and ironmans.

After 4 years spent in London we decided to move to Auckland, New Zealand. During this time, I made connections with a running coach at Get Running and worked alongside him. I also worked at a physiotherapy clinic called Be Physio providing massage services. Shortly after I took maternity leave for the birth of my daughter.

We then made the decision to move to Javea in 2020. I now also have a son and am returning to my full-time massage therapy job.

I enjoy working one on one with each client and each treatment is tailored to what the client needs. I believe massage is beneficial for the body’s physical needs but can also be helpful for emotional needs as well such as decreasing stress and anxiety.

Whether you are struggling with headaches, various muscle pains and tensions due to exercise, or just want to relax and have a good massage, I am happy to help.
